Red Bull Crashed Ice 2008 in Quebec City 1. February 2008

Red Bull Event 2008

 

 On January 26 th , 2008 the "Red Bull Crashed Ice" took place for the third time in Quebec City Canada . The event is a combination of hockey, boardercross, and downhill skiing and attracts mostly amateur and semi-pro hockey players from around the world. The track in Quebec City , which was 535m long, starting at the famous Château Frontenac and ending at Place de Paris, displayed several hairpin turns, vertical drops and other tricky features. Whoever makes it down the track first wins the competition.

After a qualifying round on Friday, where 100 athletes participated, 64 contestants were picked to compete in the finals on Saturday. Consecutive groups of 4 skaters stormed down the track at speeds of over 50 kmh before a winner could be determined. This year Arttu Philainen, a contestant from Finland , was crowned champion of "Red Bull Crashed Ice" and took home a price money of $ 5000.

Around 85,000 fans were present in Old Quebec on Saturday to cheer on the contestants and to enjoy the show which also featured a free open air concert of the Canadian group "Three Days Grace". The event attracts more and more fans around the world and has already taken place in many cities, such as Stockholm , Klagenfurt , Moscow , Prague and Helsinki .
